PROJECTS | gardens by night
For centuries nocturnal gardens were created to venerate the moon, inspire poetry, or simulate the rewards of a heavenly paradise on earth. In 2001 we began photographing those luminous landscapes, with their rich cultural and historic traditions.Over the next decade we photographed over thirty gardens around the world. This exploration was less about garden design and more about moonlight—what it reveals and what it conceals. Often in our work we are drawn to investigating nature transformed by the human hand. In 2001 we began seeking out those luminous landscapes - with their rich cultural and historic traditions.
