“GARDENS OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS” Sophisticated Traveler Magazine | May 1993The quarterly travel magazine published by the New York Times commissioned us to create a portfolio on the Huntington Gardens, an oasis a mere twelve miles from downtown Los Angeles. The man behind the creation of these botanical collections was Henry Huntington, a railroad and real estate magnate. In 1903 he purchased a 500-acre ranch, devoting 103-acres of the property to showcase plant collections from around the world. The renowned Desert Garden, which includes more than 2,000 species, is one of the largest outdoor collections of cacti and succulents in the world.
